Tops Aims High with Beef Training Camp

Tops Friendly Markets® recently held a Beef Training Camp session in Buffalo, NY. More than 100 meat managers and meat store associates from all store locations attended.

During the training session, Tops associates learned more about customer service, nutrition labeling and their launch of a new cut from the Chuck Roll, the Denver Cut.

Jean O’Toole of the NY Beef Industry Council led the customer service presentation. Allison Wenther, Manager, Channel Marketing for the Eastern Region, presented the Nutrition Labeling content, and Kevin Carrazzone from Tyson performed a cutting demonstration for Tops' newest offering, the Denver Cut.

“At Tops Friendly Markets, we recognize the value of our butchers and having fresh cut meat in our stores,” Jim Lane, Tops Director of Meat and Seafood said. “We are excited about the Denver Cut because it is an opportunity to offer our customers a new innovative beef cut that is tender and juicy and also a true value for our shoppers. When we introduced the ‘Denver Steak’ at our annual Meat Managers Seminar, it received overwhelming support from across the company. Our plan is to add new beef offerings throughout the year.”

Tops also recognizes that staff training is an effective tool to lead to better customer service, and they realize that better customer service leads eventually to greater sales. They haven’t stopped there, though. In an effort to increase meat department performance, they have also recently launched an On-Pack Nutrition Labeling Program in all their stores.

Don't forget to use Beef Training Camp to get your staff up to speed on everything from nutrition and food safety to grilling and ground beef. To schedule your own Beef Training Camp session, contact your State Beef Council or Manager, Channel Marketing today.
