Innovator of the Year, HAC Inc.
The innovator award was developed to recognize a retailer who is a pioneer in the industry through marketing, merchandising and the promotion of beef. The 2010 award recipient, HAC Inc., operates 75 supermarkets throughout Oklahoma and Kansas under three banners - Homeland Stores, United Stores and Country Mart.
In 2009, HAC launched the Red River Ranch Angus Beef brand in cooperation with Cargill. This effort included an aggressive promotions campaign through billboards, coupons, ad circulars, radio and in-store demonstrations and sampling in addition to comprehensive training with their meat managers.
In addition to the launch of Red River Ranch Angus beef, HAC has been a unique partner for the Oklahoma Beef Council and the entire beef industry through its incredible support of a consumer research trial for the checkoff-funded Beef Alternative Merchandising program. They opened up the doors of their Homeland Stores to help the checkoff team evaluate the potential application of these newly developed cuts.
Overall, consumers demonstrated considerable purchase interest, and the study results will help provide the necessary information to encourage other US retailers to adopt the program and further champion beef’s versatility for today’s consumers.
